This month, CSA Dress & Drinks highlights the LSU Textile & Costume Museum, a large and growing collection dedicated to the study and preservation of fashion, textiles, and dress history. The museum houses more than 10,000 objects, including a significant Geoffrey Beene archive of over 340 pieces, and serves as an important resource for understanding Louisiana history as well as broader fashion and cultural trends.
Leading the conversation is Michael E. Mamp, Director & Curator of the LSU Textile & Costume Museum and Associate Professor of Textiles, Apparel Design, & Merchandising. Mamp has a background that spans both academia and the fashion industry. He holds degrees in fashion design, textile and costume history, and dress history, and spent fourteen years working in visual merchandising and store operations for major brands including Limited, Bloomingdale’s, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
At LSU, Mamp works within one of the few academic programs in the United States that offers both master's and PhD degrees in fashion and textile history, along with practical training in curation, exhibitions, and collections management. He is especially enthusiastic about sharing the museum's collection, explaining how objects are used for teaching, how exhibitions are developed, and why fashion and textiles matter to everyday life.

The Baton Rouge Highball
A bright, easygoing citrus highball inspired by Louisiana flavors and classic American style.
Ingredients
1.5 oz gin
2 oz orange juice
0.5 oz lemon juice
Club soda
Orange slice or peel for garnish
Instructions
Fill a tall glass with ice. Add gin, orange juice, and lemon juice. Top with club soda and stir gently. Garnish with an orange slice or peel.
