This month’s Dress & Drinks takes us inside one of the most iconic fashion archives in the world: The Vault at Levi Strauss & Co. headquarters in San Francisco. This is where denim history comes to life through garments, stories, and cultural memory.

We are delighted to welcome Tracey Panek, Historian & Director of Archives at Levi Strauss & Co. A lifelong Levi’s® enthusiast, Panek combines her academic training in history (BA, University of California, Berkeley; MA, Sacramento State University) with decades of experience in corporate archives. Since joining Levi Strauss & Co. in 2014, she has led efforts to preserve and interpret the brand’s rich legacy, tracing its roots back to the California Gold Rush and forward into global fashion culture.

Through a selection of highlights from The Vault, Panek will explore how Levi’s® garments reveal the lives of their wearers—how people have expressed work, identity, politics, and style through what they wear. From workwear to streetwear to the runway, Levi’s® has remained a powerful symbol of adaptability and cultural relevance. Along the way, we’ll encounter unexpected stories and figures and even a few surprising archival objects.

Our drinks for the evening:

The Indigo Highball (Cocktail)

 Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ¾ oz honey syrup (1:1 honey and warm water)
  • 2 oz sparkling water
  • Lemon twist or mint sprig, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Fill a glass with ice.
  2. Add bourbon, lemon juice, and honey syrup.
  3. Top with sparkling water.
  4.  Stir gently and garnish.

The Indigo Highball  (Non-Alcoholic)

 Ingredients (serves 1):

  •  ¾ oz fresh lemon juice
  •  ¾ oz honey syrup
  • 2 oz apple juice
  • 2 oz sparkling water
  • Lemon twist or mint sprig, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Fill a glass with ice.
  2. Add lemon juice, honey syrup, and apple juice.
  3. Top with sparkling water.
  4. Stir gently and garnish.
